Special Education

The Special Education Department at Century Academy for Excellence provides services to students who qualify as individuals with exceptional needs, including those with IEP’s and 504 Plans. Under the 1991 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Free and Public Education Act (FAPE) of 1973 and the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) of 1994 , CAFE is required by the state of California and the Federal Government to serve these students in specially designed classrooms with teachers who are credentialed in the appropriate special education areas.

It is our goal at CAFE to ensure that the Special Education Students achieve at the highest level possible, to meet their full potential. We believe that it takes a team for any student to be successful. This team includes the general education teachers, the special education teacher, the Special Education Coordinator, CAFE administration, the student and the parent. At CAFE we uphold the fact that all school stakeholders play an important role in the student’s lifelong success, while also recognizing that all middle school-aged scholars need a little extra help with executive functioning (organization and planning).

Teachers understand that students with learning disabilities need a variety of accommodations and they teach with differentiated instruction to meet the needs of the students, according to their IEP.

CAFE’s special education department is part of the Southwest Special Education Local Planning Area (SELPA). Case-specific auxiliary special education services are provided by Total Education Solutions (TES), a top-rated agency that provides innovative multidisciplinary education and therapeutic services in schools, homes, clinics, and communities, and online to children and adults with special needs.CAFÉ Special
