Century Academy for Excellence is a public, independent, charter middle school. The school is chartered through Lennox School District and is sponsored by Century Housing: A Nonprofit Corporation. As an alternative to public middle school options, Century Academy for Excellence seeks to provide a small student-centered environment, where students actively engage in their own learning. Beyond achieving the basic skills, it is our hope to inspire our students to become leaders who think critically and creatively in today’s ever-changing world. ............................................................................................... Our standards-based curriculum serves as the foundation for high student achievement. Students actively construct understanding of the curriculum through projects and hands-on learning. Underlying the carefully designed academic program is a focus on character development where students take responsibility for their learning and develop a sense of pride for themselves and their community. Parent involvement is essential to student achievement, therefore highly involved parent participation is critical. To build our learning community, students, parents, and teachers engage in a process of collective inquiry and reflection to ensure dialogue and collaboration (Henderson & Hawthorne, Transformative Curriculum Leadership, 2000). ...............................................................................................
